Had a fantastic day today. We went on an excursion to Leeds castle, about forty miles from Dover. Again, we had a really talky informative highly educated guide. She told us all the royal dirt involved with this castle. It goes back to 1056, built by William the Conqueror. Enough of the history though. Let me tell you about what we did whilst we were there.
From where the bus parked to where the castle actually was, was about a1.5 mile walk through the most beautiful park like grounds you ever saw. It was dampish out and had rained a little and so it smelled just heavenly. The big old fat people were NOT happy about the walk. “WE WERE NOT TOLD ABOUT THIS WALKING. THIS JUST ISN’T RIGHT. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD. I SHALL HAVE A WORD WITH FRONT DESK WHENST WE GET BACK. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!” shouted one British complainant. So the poor guide said that she would arrange for transport for the “stick people”. Hahaha..she was talking about anyone with a cane. Meanwhile, Bill and I just took off through the lovely grounds, wandering along pathways past beautiful ponds with black swans, white swans, geese and so on. Huge beautiful weeping willows reflected back to us from water. It really was magnificent.
The castle was pretty amazing. I will post pics when I get back. We toured through it for an hour with a LOT of people. At the end, over the cobblestones and through the bridge over the moat, the livery had been converted to a shoppe. We went in and bought some lovely things. But…….Bill bought 3 different types of fruit cakes. Jeeeezzzz!!!! So then it was time to wander back through the beautiful park. Along the way we found a fairly private bench to sit upon, right beside a little stream full of wildlife of one sort or another. And before you knew it, he had the cakes out, open and was munching on them. Not having had any breakfast, we were hungry and I am ashamed to report….we at half of each one. (they weren’t really big … but still) So that was the highlight of our day….a fruitcake picnic under a weeping willow beside a meandering stream in the grounds of a beautiful English Castle! Tomorrow….Edam TTYL
