TURKEY DINNER LONG DISTANCE

Ever since Friday I have been cooking turkey dinner via telephone!  So funny.  I get a lot of calls from the kids for various methods and recipes.  Its hard because, as most cooks my age, I cook by instinct.  We depend on smell, sound, feel, taste...it all plays into a successful final product.

So, to tell them how to make something precisely over the phone can be a challenge.  April, Aryn and Monte all called for instructions of one sort or another.

WE FOUND A NEW PARK TODAY...BEAUTIFUL...YOU CAN SEE THE VOG IN THE DISTANCE

MY EMAILS TODAY!!  THIS IS SO CUTE..THAT LAST ONE WAS AN ACTUAL VIDEO OF THE TURKEY COOKING...JUST TO MAKE SURE!!

THE DINNER I MADE BILL TONIGHT
But, April....firstly, a mistake caught in the nick of time at the till, was buying a chicken for their smaller thanksgiving meal.  At the till April asked Andrew to hand her the chicken from the cart and he responded, drolly "Do you mean the duck?"  !!!!!!!!!!  She did say that she thought the "chicken" had been stretched out and had frozen that way!!  On their feast day she phoned to ask about doing ribs as well.  How long, what to do to make them tender etc...and of course there are a number of ways to do it.  We went over the methods.  But she, like Aryn, is a good cook and can figure things out well.

And Aryn, well, she was cooking an 18 pounder today.  On Friday she swung by the house and picked up the electric roaster....does amazing things to turkey!!  Now, she has definitely successfully done turkey in this thing before, but not one so large and not one that was being eaten by such important guests.  So.....I don't need to tell you, I can show you what went down today.  Check the pics!!

And then there is Monte.  He has been invited to a turkey dinner tomorrow and he wants to take a trifle.  Now for you folks that don't know this, I make a whole variety of trifles.  They are basically deconstructed desserts, made into trifle form.  Eg:  lemon pie...I buy meringue cookies, make lemon pie filling from scratch and then whip cream...layer and voila!  You can pretty much do anything.  So we started off with him making the banana one (using banana bread/pudding/bananas) then moved to skor bar..(.sarah lee frozen vanilla cake/butterscotch pudding/score bar chunks and whipping cream) and ended up with banana bread, chocolate pudding, bananas and whipping cream with a little dulce de leche thrown in.  My teeth hurt.

I am juicing right now...day 7..and am HUNGRY!!  But I feel fantastic which sure makes up for it.  So tonight I made Bill dinner.  Chicken mole, corn fried rice and chilli rellenos casserole.  I think this is most heroic of me!!  I could eat my arm off right now!  I will take a picture of his dinner.

We haven't done too much the last couple of days.  Its very very voggy out there.  The trade winds are not blowing right now and the volcano is acting up so we are buried in vog.  It makes Bill sneeze and sneeze.  So all for today.  I hope all the Canadians reading this had a lovely thanksgiving.  TTYL
