So, today the plan is to leave in about an hour for Lahaina and then on to the banana bread trail. We are going to make a stop a Jurassic Park (as we call it) as well. So there will be lots of boring green pics at the end of this entry! Gotta bounce and go get ready. Later!
Well we did it. We stopped at the Cannery Mall in Lahaina first before heading off to the trail. I love that mall. There is one particular store in there that has the most interesting and beautiful things...like beautifully carved wooden forks that were used in Fiji to eat the enemy persons when captured. A family with two fairly young children travel around the south seas collecting the most fascinating items. I love it in there, its like a store/museum almost. We then headed off to get the banana bread.
The drive on that side of the island is challenging and beautiful. Every time we do it we see something new. This time we walked about a little in the banana bread village (I can't remember the actual name but I bet it starts with a W or a K) What a lush beautiful little spot. We met a man at the church also looking around. His mother was born near there and is now unable to get about. She wanted him to take some pics and show her. He was interesting to talk to. And then of course...the banana bread.
We first stopped at Lorraine's for banana cream pie. Now, let me tell you about this pie. It has a regular pie crust, but she coats it with dark chocolate. She then fills it with home made thick custard like pudding, topped with sliced bananas and over that a light covering of whipped cream. And its COLD. And....she cuts the pie in four and 1/4 is the size of your piece. Unbelievably good! And Lorraine......well she is just one of those happy happy Hawaiin ladies that hugs you and teases you and just makes you feel welcomed and special. She remembered meeting Cookie's mom two years ago!! We then went a few feet along the little road, across a wee bridge, past some Hawaiian boys hopping about and singing and selling coconuts, to Julia's Banana Bread.
Her bread is the best in the whole world. When you buy it it's hot and steamy. The bread is dark and moist and buttery and she covers it in a layer of some kind of sticky syrup. Holy Hana!! Bill got out and bought four loaves, one got eaten and the others put into the freezer. Soooo good.
We then returned home, I say so easily. The road is so narrow that two cars can't

pass in spots. At one point a car load of locals came screaming around a corner just ahead of us and came so close to taking out the vehicle just ahead, and when he corrected himself he damn near went over the cliff. Brian quickly pulled as far off the road as possible and when they went screaming past the car was full of young males, killing themselves laughing. Stupid boys.
We had an early dinner, hopped into the car, and went out to Wailea Beach and walked the seaside walk, about a kilometre, beside the ocean and in front of multi million dollar condos. Very beautiful and the sunset was a tad better than it has been the last while.
I have switched back to blogging in the morning. I am just too distracted and tired to do it at night. And some of the pics are going to be doubles for my facebook friends, who will have already seen some of them.
