I swear I am getting early (or not so early) onset dementia. I just simply don't remember things. And I am not sure if its early onset dementia or just plain apathy.
I will give you an example. My awesome friend Anne offered to come over one day and help me with my laundry (and she can do hers at the same time) and spur me onward with sorting out my still packed boxes of clothes. Toss, hang or sally anne.
So a couple of days ago we made arrangements for her to come over around ten o'clock in the morning one day and we would gitter done. I was pretty sure it was today, Wednesday. I was also going to make lunch. Last night I hauled out my several bags of frozen beef barley soup to fix up (it was way too thick), went to the store and bought bagels to make croutons for a caesar salad. I also bought an apple crumble pie to go with the whipping cream in my fridge.
Now its Wednesday. And it is way past 11. So now I am aware I am mixing things up and not paying proper attention to conversations and plans. I came to the conclusion that its tomorrow she is coming, not today. I settle in to do some lappy stuff. Just as I get comfy.......
The phone rings. Its Anne. She is running late. She had to cook the chicken she promised to bring. What? Shit!!! I totally forgot she said she would bring the chicken. In fact I totally forgot the whole conversation we had. Damn!! And now I have this massive pot of absolutely delicious beef barley soup to freeze again. At least its fixed. (shovel list) And the actual reason she is running late? She decided to debone that chicken. Why? I ask!!!
I have known Anne since we were kids having kids. We met around 1974. And to be friends with this extremely loyal amazing person means you must be able to put up with a person who is always late. And I mean seriously hours late sometimes. She is way better now than she was years ago but .... it still happens on occasion. But you know if thats her worst trait...who cares!
And....she doesn't have a cell phone. I can honestly say she is the only person I know older than ten who doesn't have one. Sometimes I envy her this situation, but damn! its inconvenient for the rest of us!!! You can't find her in stores. You can't cancel or update plans. You can't chit chat instead of getting together. She also doesn't have a computer (I know, right!!!???) so there even isn't emailing. She goes to the library and she watches CBC so she is full of interesting conversation, and thats more important. I guess. LOL!!! I like to give her the gears about it!
Anyway, she is going to be here in fifteen minutes....maybe. And I had best get to it and get the bagel croutons made and the table set. TTYL
