We hiked up the I'ao Needle and down into the valley floor. Really really pretty. There were a lot of tourists walking it too. Everybody here is so so friendly, even the tourists.
Saw a thing that disturbed me today. Sometimes the locals here can be kind of cavalier and hard on their little ones. A carload of locals pulled up beside us at the beach. I will post a picture I took of two babies and their dad in the water before a ledge that stops the heavy waves. That will give you an idea of how deep the water was.
A really huge dad grabbed one of his kids, a baby about ten months old, marched down to the water, removed its clothes, and literally dropped it into the water. I almost had a heart attack. The baby floundered and railed around until he scooped it up. The baby was screaming so he smacked its bottom. What the hell? He dropped it into the water again. I was about to go steaming down there when a mom of one of the kids in the picture went flying down there, yelling and waving a telephone. She threatened him if he didn't take the baby out and if he hit it again she was calling the cops. So he swung the baby under his arm, grabbed up the clothes and came back up to the car. The mother grabbed the sobbing little thing and rocked it and soothed her until she stopped crying. Two giant locals came down the beach from the direction of the lifeguard station, grabbed the guy and hauled him off to a rescue truck and drove away with him. Everyone in the suv beside us was so relieved and happy after that. The mom took the little girl down to the water, sat down with her and the wee thing was quite happy to sit down and play, no fear at all.
