HANA ROAD SANS TWO

Due to tummy issues, Eithne and Jess didn't come with us to Hana yesterday. And what a sad thing because that trip is worth every single minute. It took us ten hours to completely go from the condo and back, circling Haleakala. The first half is through 68 miles of lush jungle with 59 bridges (narrow one laners), 620 hairpin curves and umpteen waterfalls. Past that its another fifty miles of curves and bumpy road, hanging off cliffs and dodging cattle. Its more like dried brush and desert on this side of the volcano. So much fun!!!

The scenery is not something that can be described. Even the pictures don't really do it justice. Honestly, that trip is the most amazing visual experience you can wish for. At one bridge April, Bill and I bailed out and tried to get down to one waterfall. Bill had to turn back, it just became too muddy, slippery and overgrown. But Ape and I finally made it through. So beautiful. We came back covered in mud and mosquito bites. Whoever said mud stops the itching is full of crap.

So we inched our way along, stopping everywhere it looked like there might be something to see. Mostly it was bamboo forests and waterfalls. Oh, and the most amazing variety of giant creepy flowers. They seem to be so big and weird. Some of them are down right rude. I will try to get some pics and show you what I mean.

We got home around seven and Jess and Eithne had not only cleaned the condo, but they had WALKED!, to Safeway mall and bought Bill and me the most beautiful rainbow of roses in a vase and a lovely thank you card to go with it. I was so happy. They went out again last night and had some adventures in night club land. Doesn't appeal to me but it seems they had a lot of fun. I stuck my head out here at four in the morning and they were out here in the living room killing themselves laughing. Jess was sensibly in bed asleep. April and Eithne were doing bad drunk pics in front of photo booth app. I will include a couple and you will see what I mean!
