Looooooong day!!! On Saturday we were up and on a bus downtown Kamloops by five in the morning. I think by then we had figured out that we were headed to the Kelowna Airport. 49 of us (or close to) boarded a plane for, first Toronto then Moncton New Brunswick.
Now you might wonder "what the hell is in Moncton?" but you would be surprised! The Bay of Fundy has the highest tide in the world and some unusual and interesting natural geographical, not to mention beautiful, spots. We didn't get into our hotel and into bed until two am Moncton time. They are four hours ahead here. Thats only ten at home but we had to be up and out the door and on a bus by nine in the morning. That entailed getting up by four am our time in Kamloops.
I think we were a little skeptical about the tour group at first. The average age of the group is 92, I swear. It is soooo much like the cruises. And that can get a little annoying, let me tell you!
For example, yesterday morning everybody was dressed, fed and on the bus by nine...except two. They were nowhere to be found. They weren't in the lobby. They weren't answering their phone in their room. They were nowhere. Finally the tour director, Roland, with a hotel peep, went up to their room and banged on their door. Yup, there they were. Moseying around their room. They had decided not to go out today and neglected to tell anyone. They delayed our whole day by 30 to 40 minutes which wreaks havoc with the tour guide's schedule. And after finding out which two it was, I know this isn't the last time we will be dealing with them.
We had a fantastic day. We made several stops as we drove along the River and Bay coastline. One of the stops involved a thousand stairs which almost killed me! I will put some pics at the bottom.
We stopped for lunch in Alma, a quaint little fishing village. So fifty oldsters, (including ourselves although we are the youngest of the group) piled into a cute down home type cafe, tied bibs on, and got served the most amazing lunch ever! Plates of salads, the best tasting buns you ever ate and we each got an astoundingly huge cooked lobster and a bowl of clarified butter. OH MY GOD!!! I was in heaven!!!! What a fun experience that was!!! All those old people cracking and dunking and slurping and getting covered in lobster smeggly!!!!!
Afterwards, I was surprised by how many people didn't like the lobster. How can you NOT like lobster? Old fuddy duddies! When we all came busting out of the cafe, belching and on a food experience high, I went over to this couple, not too too old, that kind of keep to themselves. They never smile. Aren't friendly. If you talk to her she kind of stares at you as though you have just mooned her.
I commented "Wasn't that an amazing lunch?" And she stares at me for a moment then goes, "no". Just "no". I went "huh? you didn't like it?" in total astonishment. And she again stares at me for a moment and goes "no". No explanation or anything, just "no". Jeez! Then as I talked with people I found out there were several people who didn't like it. Man, people! I don't even know why some of them frigging travel. The two old ladies sitting beside us across the aisle on the bus, were sound asleep within five minutes of boarding. Slept right through all the guide commentary and beautiful scenery.
