SAD BUT RIGHT

Well our Mom is gone.  We arrived here yesterday afternoon and met Kevin and Aryn, Kathy, Jocelyn, Emily and Kerry at her rest home where she has lived for the last while.  She was comfortably set up in her own bed and not really conscious.  But now and then a little smile would cross her face and at one point she squeezed and rubbed Aryn's hand.  We left around ten last night, knowing that it would be very unlikely we would see her again, and she passed this morning at 7 o'clockish.

Yesterday was so special.  There was a brown box in the corner of her room, full to the top, with her diaries...dating back to the forties, poetry she has written over the years and stories of events in her life.  She love to write and she was quite gifted at it.  We read some of her poetry and told many crazy stories about her.  After all this was the woman who could shoot a running deer at 500 yards, shoot a rattlesnake on the deck, after accidentally shooting a hole in the floor and canned more pickled beets than Costco sells in a year.

Later in the evening, I don't know, maybe we were all tired, but we started to play charades in her room, with her right there.  We laughed and had such a good time.  At one point Monte phoned so we did face time and he could see us and we could see him.  So he played along too!  A very special time.

Today has been a long long day of many many phone calls to people and loved ones.  And Kathy, bless her, spent a great deal of time talking with the funeral home, making arrangements, writing obits etc....  We all headed over to Duffy's for a lovely lunch.  We laughed and had a great time.

Now its bedtime and I am so tired I am seeing double.  Time to go to bed!! TTYL

  1. I'm so sorry for your loss. But I am so glad your last time with her was full of love and laughter.
